The Sun - Daystar Solar Scout and ASI174MM - July 11, 2022

An image of the Sun, shot on July 11 2022. This photo was shot through the Daystar Solar Scout hydrogen alpha telescope which shows a detailed view of the chromosphere of the sun in all it's warm, red, orange, and yellow glory.

Summer has finally begun to go full blast here in Vancouver and today was hot and sunny from the get go. I have been trying to get some shots with my new ZWO ASI174MM dedicated astronomy camera but haven’t had the chance until today. I’ve also been trying to add a focal reducer to my setup so I don’t have to shoot a mosaic to image the full disc of the Sun, one more adapter and I should be good to go on that front. Here is first light with the ASI174MM, it is a two shot mosaic shot at 11am showing the full disc of the Sun. This was shot with the Daystar Solar Scout 60DS, riding on the SkyWatcher Solar Quest mount. There are some prominences on the lim, some really huge and I mean huge filaments, and a couple active regions complete with sunspots. I still have a long way to go on learning how to process solar images, but this is one of the best yet. I used AutoStakkert3!, IMPPG, Register, Lightroom, Photoshop, SharpenAI, and Gigapixel AI to get to this final image. Can’t wait to get out and do it again!

Clear Skies!
